Script Development

Description: Free workshop that addresses, in a very dynamic way, the cinematic script and the way stories can be told within cinema, emphasizing practice (preparation for projects) and structuring the script.

Format: FOUR MEETINGS lasting 3 hours and ONE final MEETING lasting 2 hours.

​

Module 1:Introduction to story creation and audiovisual storytelling

  • What makes a good story and what is an audiovisual script?;

  • Formatting a script;

  • Deconstruction of a scene;

  • Brainstorm exercise and group division.

​

Module 2:The structure of a film

  • The evolution of the script to its classic structure;

  • Turning points and the hero's journey;

  • Understanding the rules first so that one day you can break them;

  • Archiplot, miniplot and antiplot.

​

Module 3:Characters and their arcs

  • What makes a good character?;

  • Dramatic need and arcs (long and short);

  • Archetypes;

  • Exercises to better understand your character (50 questions and description).

​

Module 4:Formatting and thinking about production

  • The bible: logline, synopsis, argument and scale;

  • Audiovisual panorama in Brazil;

  • Exchange of scripts: scripts will change hands so that each group can read and leave comments on their colleague's project, encouraging discussion and collaboration;

  • Presenting your project.

​

Module 5:Pitching

  • Each group will present their project to their colleagues and three judges;

  • Feedback and closure.

​

Required infrastructure:

  • Internet access;

  • Projector with HDMI input and output and screen;

  • Classroom (space with university chairs or tables).
